Our vision is to make sure that AI does not exploit humans and is safe and aligned with human interests.

To design non-chatbot AI in line with this vision, we dig deep into academic research and conduct more of our own.




Mission-lock

We have put a mission-locked clause in our company charter:

To create technology (particularly AI and machine learning) that increases human safety, agency, ability, well-being, self-actualisation, and understanding; and thereby prevent the rise of technology that undermines these aims or deceives users.

Leadership

Aligned AI was founded by Silicon Valley tech hobbyist-turned-technologist, Rebecca Gorman, and joined by ex-Oxford fellow, Dr. Stuart Armstrong, leaders in the fields of AI and AI alignment.

Co-founder & Chief Mathematician

Dr. Stuart Armstrong spent a decade at the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University focusing on the power and risk of AI long before others were aware of these issues. Dr. Armstrong developed many novel methods of AI control, publishing extensively and accumulating thousands of citations. In 2022 he co-founded Aligned AI with the aim of ensuring that AIs remained safe and under human control. He is the author of Smarter Than Us: The Rise of Machine Intelligence and Racing to the precipice: a model of artificial intelligence development. He has also appeared in several documentaries, such as "Alien Worlds", "The Future of Life and Death", and "Odyssey", and has been interviewed by major news outlets about AI and the future of space exploration.

She has co-developed several advanced methods for AI alignment and has advised policymaking bodies including the EU, UN, OECD, and UK Parliament on responsible AI regulation. Rebecca Gorman is a Silicon Valley native and life-long tech hobbyist who never let go of that 80s vision and experience of enhancing personal ability technology. Technology does not exploit, abuse, manipulate, or control the user, and anything that does so is not worthy of the name. Her mission is to deliver on Silicon Valley's early promise of empowering every individual to easily create, own and control whatever tools they envision and imagine for their lives.


Rebecca is a sought-after keynote speaker and is consulted by a number of governmental and international bodies for expert advice on AI.


She was named in REWork’s Top 100 Women Advancing AI in 2023, nominated for VentureBeat's Women in AI Award for Responsibility and Ethics in AI, and is a member of Fortune's Founders Forum.

Successful R&D has confirmed his core belief: that the challenge of getting AIs to follow human values not only must be solved, but can be solved, and will be solved.


He is the author of Smarter Than Us, a mentor for the Foresight Institute, an Advisor of the AI Safety Camp, has given multiple TEDx talks, and has appeared in several documentaries ("Alien Worlds", "The Future of Life and Death", "Odyssey") and interviews on AI and the future of space exploration.
